But I didn't do anything
We've lost count of how many times a patient has come to see us and said "I have no idea what happened, I didn't do anything and now my back is killing me!" What many patients don't know, or don't understand, is that it's not always a case of what you did five minutes ago, or what you did yesterday, or even what you did last week. It's more a case of "the straw that broke the camel's back", no pun intended!
Maybe you just picked up the post from the doormat and you felt a sharp pain in your lower back. But picking up the post certainly didn't cause that! Sometimes it's chronic misuse over a period of time or even the way you sit at your desk that plays havoc with your back muscles and your posture that finally causes your back to "go out" or it maybe due to some underlying long-term health problem that you've failed to address that finally manifests itself into the pain.
The longer you leave the pain the worse it could get. Pain is not enemy is actually your body's strongest ally. Pain is your body's natural way of telling you that something is wrong ... It may subside given time but ignore the underlying cause at your peril. It may return, get worse and continue to let you know you're overlooking something and change is needed.
