Watch your back during the credit crunch!
The Uk economy is facing its worst crisis for 60 years, according to Chancellor Alistair Darling. But what impact will the credit crunch have on your health? If the recession is making you work longer hours hunched over your keyboard and stress levels are rocketing, take care! "We've noticed a 20 percent increase in neck and shoulder pain since the onset of the credit crunch," says senior physiotherapist Salil Das, "we believe its a direct consequence of increased hours of computer use-you can't hold excessive levels of tension in your muscles without doing damage."

Sitting immobile, glued to a computer screen, is asking for trouble-our bodies just aren't designed to be cramped into one position for hours on end. An increased workload also may mean that you're more likely to forego your session at the gym or even an invigorating walk around the block at lunchtime.

"You must pay attention to any pain and discomfort," says Salil. "It's your bodies way of saying that you've got to stop what you're doing." Take preventative action, get up and walk around and find a physical activity you enjoy to counteract the periods of stress. And at the first sign of trouble, make sure you get professional advice.
